The combination of Department of Technology Management for Innovation, Graduate School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo departure concept “Digital Grid’”; and financial services “mobile money” spread rapidly in Africa improves the lives of the non-electrified areas by renting solar LED lanterns to customers.
The WASSHA device connects with solar panels, a battery, and an original WASSHA charging application on a smartphone. The USB ports on the front of the device charge electrical gadgets by controlling from the mobile application. The solar LED lanterns bring not only the light at night, but also better solution for the customer’s health compared to using kerosene lamps that give off smoke. The customers use the rental solar LED lanterns at home, shops, on the fishing boats and many other places and improve their lives.
In cooperation with local Kiosk stores, the mobile phone application collects detailed data of huge number of consumers’ big data and the data will bring new business ideas in Africa.
